Digital Audio Player
Support for Digital Audio Player, aka iPod, aka MP3 player. While most of them are pure Mass Storage devices, some requires updating a database to have the music files taken care off, and some use other protocols.
Currently missing is a general purpose open source library for accessing and syncing these devices.
iPod
Library to update the iPod database.
Library to detect iPod devices.
C# based library to access the iPod database.
MTP compatible devices
MTP is a Microsoft variant of PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) that is used by [Digital Still Cameras].
Even if libgphoto2 is dedicated to [Digital Still Cameras], it now support MTP variant allow people to *experimentally* download and upload from/to the music player.
Creative Nomad Jukebox
Implements the DPE protocol used by Creative Nomad JukeBox and Dell DJ digital audio players under BSD, Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.
Newer Creative Zen devices, such as the Creative Zen MicroPhoto, use a 2.x MTP/PlaysForSure firmware upgrade which is supported by libmtp.

Rio Music Manager Lite, a Java implementation of the Rio Karma software. It is not free software, but runs Linux
