The mission of the OSDL Cluster Project is to define and develop clustering services which could be used in a variety of cluster architectures and could be leveraged by clustering solutions. The intent of the project is to leverage existing open source components where possible and to leverage evolving standards where they are reasonable (i.e. The Open Cluster Framework, The Service Availability Forum, etc.). developer.osdl.org is to be a place where existing projects are referenced and where reference implementations are done. It is expected that the reference implementation will be developed in parallel with the standards themselves.
The reference implementations will be coded mainly in C on Linux
platforms. These reference implementations will be available for
download and will be licensed under an open source license. The
effort will be a full fledged community development effort to develop
a set of common clustering utilities which could be used in a
demanding commercial setting.
